RHBA-2018:2717 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
openstack-cinder bug fix advisory
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages that resolve various issues are
now available for Red Hat OpenStack Platform 10.0 (Newton) for RHEL 7.
Description
Red Hat OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for building, deploying,
and monitoring a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud
running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory includes
packages for:
- OpenStack Block Storage service
OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end
physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or
NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports
volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations.
Programmatic management is available through the Block Storage service's
API.
Changes to the openstack-cinder component:
- Previously, creating a volume from an image failed when the the value of 'initiator_target_map' in the FC target data returned by VNX was none, resulting in OS-Brick preventing attachments.
With this update, attachments on VNX FC that do not have an initiator target map are successful. (BZ#1613887)
- Previously, the Cinder Backup service NFS backend assumed that the NFS server has been configured to allow the Backup service to create files and directories on the server. The Backup service runs as a non-privileged 'cinder' user, requiring file permissions and ownership on the server to be set correctly. This caused backups to fail if the NFS server was not configured to allow the 'cinder' user to create files and directories.
With this update, when initializing the NFS backend, the Backup service checks whether the server permissions and directory ownership are correct. The permissions and directory ownership are updated automatically to ensure the Backup service operates correctly. (BZ#1489127)
- Previously, green threads were blocked during hash calculations, resulting in DB or RabbitMQ timeouts.
With this update, blocking is prevented by generating hashes in native threads. (BZ#1572329)
- Previously, Cinder incorrectly updated the quotas when deleting a temporary volume. Operations that require that Cinder use a temporary volume resulted in corrupted quotas.
With this update, Cinder handles quotas correctly when deleting a temporary volume. (BZ#1584499)
- Previously, Cinder used the default Red Hat OpenStack Platform logging configuration. This configuration copies all log messages to stderr, where they are recorded in /var/log/messages.
With this update, the default Cinder log configuration no longer copies log messages to stderr. (BZ#1554702)
- Previously, Cinder used a synchronization lock to prevent duplicate entries in the volume image cache. The scope of this lock was too broad, and caused simultaneous requests to create a volume from an image to compete for the lock, even when the image cache was not enabled. As a result of this, simultaneous requests to create a volume from an image were serialized, and not run in parallel.
With this update, the scope of the synchronization lock is reduced, and takes effect only when the volume image cache is enabled. Simultaneous requests to create a volume from an image run in parallel when the volume image cache is disabled. When the volume image cache is enabled, locking in minimized to ensure only a single entry is created in the cache. (BZ#1555188)
- Previously, a bug in the NetApp cinder driver caused volumes created from images to be larger than specified.
With this fix, the NetApp driver uses the correct volume size when creating volumes. (BZ#1563565)
Solution
Before applying this update, ensure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
Red Hat OpenStack Platform 10 runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5.
The Red Hat OpenStack Platform 10 Release Notes contain the following:
- An explanation of the way in which the provided components interact to
form a working cloud computing environment.
- Technology Previews, Recommended Practices, and Known Issues.
- The channels required for Red Hat OpenStack Platform 10, including the
channels that need to be enabled and disabled.
