Synopsis
openstack-cinder bug fix advisory
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages that resolve various issues are
now available for Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8.0 (Liberty) for RHEL 7.
Description
Red Hat OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for building a private
or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud running on commonly
available physical hardware. This advisory includes packages for:
- OpenStack Block Storage service
OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end
physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or
NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports
volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations.
Programmatic management is available through the Block Storage service's
API.
This update addresses the following issues:
- Previously, the create volume from image flow in cinder didn't let OS-Brick know if volumes are encrypted. OS-Brick cannot properly attach encrypted volumes if it doesn't know they are encrypted, so as a result, leftover volumes in the detach will affect future attachments.
With this update, cinder marks encrypted volumes as such during the create volume from image, so you can now create multiple consecutive encrypted volumes from image.
- Improvements have been made to the debug log messages provided in the scheduler. The previous logs were sometimes not enough to know why the scheduler has made a decision. With these improvements, there is more information on the data that is being used by the scheduler for the decision making process.
- Previously, the process resource limit was set too low for image conversion. Consequently, attempting to create big volumes from an image would fail.
This update increases prlimit. As a result, big volumes from image can now be created successfully.
Solution
Before applying this update, ensure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4.
