RHBA-2012:1395 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Red Hat Network Satellite server bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated Red Hat Network Satellite package that fixes four bugs is now
available for Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4.
Description
Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite provides a solution to organizations requiring
absolute control over and privacy of the maintenance and package deployment of
their servers. It allows organizations to utilize the benefits of the Red Hat
Network without having to provide public Internet access to their servers or
other client systems.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Prior to this update, channel deletion could result in a traceback with an
integrity constraint violation. This update modifies the database schema which
prevents the delete operation from failing. (BZ#828795, BZ#856118)
- Previously, using rhnpush with Solaris packages that have version strings
exceeding 64 characters in length would fail. This update modifies the database
schema and allows longer version strings to be stored. (BZ#856128)
- Previously, RHN Satellites upgraded from versions 5.2 or older would not have
database schema fully migrated. This update adds a schema upgrade script to
modify the schema to match the newly installed databases. (BZ#856133)
All users of Red Hat Network Satellite are advised to upgrade to this updated
package, which fixes these bugs.
Solution
Application of this errata involves updating the database schema.
For general instructions on database schema upgrade, consult the
following document first: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/273633
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied. To apply this erratum, take
the following steps:
- Extend the temporary database tablespace if needed.
Application of this errata may potentially require a lot of space
in the temporary tablespace. Consult the following document for further
details: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/290263
- Shut down Red Hat Network Satellite by running the following as
root:
rhn-satellite stop
- Backup the Oracle database. For embedded database variants, run:
su - oracle
db-control backup /path/to/the/backup
For an external database, consult your database administrator.
- Upgrade the errata packages available via Red Hat Network. Details
on how to use Red Hat Network to apply this update are available
at https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/11258
- Start the Oracle database (embedded database variants only):
service oracle start
- Update the database schema using the spacewalk-schema-upgrade
command. To do so, run as root:
spacewalk-schema-upgrade
This process will update your database schema to the latest version.
The spacewalk-schema-upgrade command will inform you about the
results of the upgrade and exact locations of schema upgrade log
files.
- Restart Red Hat Network Satellite by running the following as root:
service oracle stop (embedded database variants only)
rhn-satellite start

Fixes
- BZ - 828795 - Channel deletion results in traceback with integrity constraint RHNSAT.RHN_EQUEUE_CID_FK or RHNSAT.RHN_ENQUEUE_CID_FK violation
- BZ - 856118 - deleting a Channel fails with RHNSAT.RHN_KSTREE_CID_FK constraint violation
- BZ - 856128 - rhnPackageCapability.version is too small for some packages
- BZ - 856133 - The rhn_command.command_class database column default is wrong when upgrading from Satellite 5.0
