Synopsis
vdsm bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated vdsm packages that fix various bugs are now available
Description
The Virtual Desktop Server Manager (VDSM) is a management module that
serves as the agent for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager on
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
virtualization hosts.
These updated packages fix the following bugs:
- The SPICE certificate files on virtualization hosts were previously
associated with the wrong group identifier (GID). This resulted in virtual
machine using SPICE consoles failing to start. An update has been made to
ensure that the libvirt-spice group identifier is set correctly. Allowing
virtual machines with SPICE consoles to start correctly (BZ#840645).
- In a previous update VDSM stopped recognizing hyperthreaded CPU cores as
multiple separate cores. By default each hyperthreaded CPU core is now
instead recognized as a single core. This update adds a configuration setting
named "report_host_threads_as_cores". When this value is set to true in the
"/etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf" file hyperthreaded CPU cores are again treated as
multiple separate CPU cores. Refer to this Red Hat Knowledge Base Solution
for further information on the previous change to the default
behaviour and the reasons for it (BZ#848729):

All Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization users with deployed Red Hat
Enterprise Linux virtualization hosts are advised to install these
updated packages, which fix these bugs. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization
Hypervisor hosts must be upgraded using the latest available hypervisor
ISO image, which also includes these updated packages.
