Topic
Updated vdsm packages that fix various bugs are now available
Description
The Virtual Desktop Server Manager (VDSM) is a management module that
serves as the agent for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager on
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
virtualization hosts.
These updated packages fix the following bugs:
- Previously, VDSM used the libvirt.VIR_DOMAIN_EVENT_STARTED event
when determining whether or not an incoming virtual machine migration
operation had completed. This resulted in a race condition which, when
triggered, caused the migration event to be marked finished on the
destination host as soon as it had started. VDSM has been updated and
now evaluates whether an incoming virtual machine migration operation
has completed in a more deterministic fashion. (BZ#827487)
- Previously VDSM did not report its version and revision information
correctly. This meant that the Hypervisor version and release
information, as displayed in the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization
Manager, was incorrect. VDSM has been updated and now reports the correct
version and revision information. (BZ#814438)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 included the new qemu-kvm-rhev package.
Existing versions of VDSM were not able to correctly determine the
version information for hosts with qemu-kvm-rhev installed. As a result
the KVM version would be listed as 'N/A' for these hosts in the Red Hat
Enterprise Virtualization Manager. VDSM has been updated and will now
correctly report the KVM version for hosts, regardless of which qemu-kvm
package is installed (BZ#830787).
- Libvirt 0.9.10 added support for keepalive checking to detect broken
connections between the client and the server. However, due to bugs in the
implementation this could have caused a failure of service and
disconnection, for example, during parallel migrations. The keepalive
support is now disabled by default and random disconnections no longer
occur. VDSM has been updated to require libvirt >= 0.9.10-21, which
resolves this issue (BZ#836196).
- Support for the execCmd action has been added to the VDSM hooks API. The
execCmd action is required to support the running of some upstream VDSM
hooks, designed for oVirt, on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization hosts
(BZ#835606).
All Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization users with deployed Red Hat
Enterprise Linux virtualization hosts are advised to install these
updated packages, which fix these bugs. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization
Hypervisor hosts must be upgraded using the latest available hypervisor
ISO image, which also includes these updated packages.
