RHBA-2012:0712 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
kernel bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated kernel packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5 Extended Update Support.
Description
The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating
system.
This update fixes the following bug:
- Prior to this update, the "list_for_each_next_safe" list macro did not
enumerate remote procedure calls (RPCs) of priority wait queue tasks stored in
the "tk_wait.links" because of the incorrect use of the
"list_for_each_entry_safe" function. As a consequence, the "rpc_wake_up" and
"rpc_wake_up_status" functions failed to wake up all tasks, the system became
unresponsive and could significantly decrease system performance. This update
modifies the underlying update so that the "list_for_each_entry_safe" function
is no longer used in rpc_wake_up(), ensuring reasonable system performance.
(BZ#817569)
All users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.
