RHBA-2011:0276 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
GFS-kernel bug-fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated GFS-kernel packages that fix various bugs and module-loading issues
are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.9, kernel release
2.6.9-100.EL.
Description
The GFS-kernel packages contain modules that provide the ability to mount
and use GFS file systems.
These updated packages apply the following bug fixes:
- Fixed issue with with writes not working properly when an fcntl lock is taken
out on a file. (BZ#212203)
- Fixed a kernel panic when using nfsd and suid with posix ACLs enabled.
(BZ#568089)
- Fixed an issue which would not allow mounting an NFS filesystem which was
backed by a GFS filesystem. (BZ#610154)
- Fixed an issue with invalid metadata blocks when running NFS on top of a GFS
filesystem. (BZ#515267)
- Fixed a bug causing a gfs_tool page allocation failure. (BZ#245264)
- GFS now properly cleans up locks after a withdraw operation. (BZ#642339)
Also, these updated GFS-kernel packages are in sync with the latest
kernel (2.6.9-100.EL). The modules in earlier GFS-kernel packages fail to
load because they do not match the running kernel. It is possible to
force-load the modules; however, with this update, force-loading the
modules is not required.
Users are advised to upgrade to these latest GFS-kernel packages, which
are updated for use with the 2.6.9-100.EL kernel.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
