Synopsis
tmpwatch bug fix update

Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated tmpwatch package that fixes a bug is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and
removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time.
Tmpwatch is normally used to clean up directories which are used for temporarily
holding files (for example, /tmp).
This update fixes the following bug:
- Previously, tmpwatch removed files even when they were created recently, if
these files were created in one of the directories managed by tmpwatch with
their access time in the past (such as when extracting archives). The default
tmpwatch configuration was modified to use the most recent times from "access",
"inode change", and "modification". With this update, tmpwatch correctly
recognizes the files as recently used and does not remove them. (BZ#642947)
All tmpwatch users are advised to upgrade to this updated tmpwatch package,
which resolves this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
