Synopsis
file bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated file package that fixes a bug in the 64-bit executable identification
is now available.
Description
The file command is used to identify a particular file according to the type of
data contained in the file.
This updated package fixes the following bug:
- Due to an incorrect computation of the "bufsize" value, attempting to identify
certain 64-bit executables resulted in the "bad note name size 0xfff10011" error
message. With this update, this computation has been fixed, and 64-bit
executables are now identified as expected. (BZ#491698)
All users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves this
issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
