RHBA-2010:0739 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
sysklogd bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated sysklogd package that fixes several bugs is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The sysklogd package contains the System Message Logging Daemon and the Kernel
Logging Daemon (klogd) that provide support for system logging. Syslogd and
klogd run as daemons and log system messages such as sendmail logs, security
logs, and error logs to various places.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Previously, the login failed and an error message was printed if the syslogd
daemon received a signal during writing into a slow console due to incorrect
signal handler. With this update, the signal handler behaves as expected and the
login is now successful. (BZ#615340)
- Previously, the syslogd daemon could deadlock in ctime() system calls when it
was set up to output MARK messages. With this update, the syslogd does not get
suspended and the issue is resolved. (BZ#618203)
Users are advised to upgrade to this updated sysklogd package, which
resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to
