Advisory: RHBA-2010:0548-2
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A

Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 4)

Details

An updated ftp package that fixes various bugs is now available.

The ftp package provides the standard UNIX command line File Transfer Protocol
(FTP) client. FTP is a widely used protocol for transferring files over the
Internet, and for archiving files.

This updated package fixes the following bugs:

* if the "get" command was used to download a non-existent file, the ftp client
did not close the file descriptor. As a result, the number of opened sockets may
have increased. With this update, file descriptors are closed as expected, and
the number of open sockets remains consistent. (BZ#315241)

* when the "case" command was used to turn on the remote computer file name case
mapping, using the "mget" command to download remote files may have caused the
ftp client to overwrite the files on the client machine with the wrong content,
or fail when mixed-case file names were used. For example, downloading multiple
files may have resulted in a single file, that contained the content of a
different file. This has been fixed, and all files are now transferred with
their original content as expected. (BZ#442767)

* previously, the ftp-debuginfo package did not contain any files, which may
have limited the debugging options. This has been fixed, and the ftp-debuginfo
package now contains the correct files. (BZ#448402)

Users of ftp are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
these issues.
