RHBA-2010:0539 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
kernel bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated kernel packages that resolve several issues are now available for Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 Extended Update Support.
Description
The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating
system.
These updated kernel packages provide fixes for the following bugs:
- when data was transmitted from a server process to a client process while the
client process was waiting for data provided by the 'select()' function, the
client process might not have returned from the 'select()' function. With these
update, the client process returns from the 'select()' function. (BZ#596383)
- in certain circumstances, under heavy load, certain network interface cards
(NIC) using the bnx2 driver and configured to use MSI-X, could stop processing
interrupts and then network connectivity would cease. With these updates, NICs
no longer becomes unresponsive and works as expected. (BZ#601523)
- when no hotpluggable PCIe slots were present on the machine, loading the
'acpiphp' module (using the '/sbin/modprobe' command) on a Intel Xeon processor
7500 series system caused kernel panic. With these updates, an error message is
produced when the aforementioned case occurs and the machine does not panic.
(BZ#607485)
Users should upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches
to correct these issues. The system must be rebooted for this update to take
effect.
