Advisory: RHBA-2010:0531-2
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2011-02-16
Last updated on: 2011-02-16
Affected Products: Red Hat Desktop (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 4)

Details

An updated dosfstools package that fixes a bug on Itanium-based systems is
now available.

The dosfstools package is set of tools for creating and maintaining
FAT-type file systems. It includes the mkdosfs and dosfsck utilities, which
respectively make and check MS-DOS FAT file systems on hard drives and
floppy disks.

This update addresses the following issue:

* when the dosfslabel command was used to set a label (eg "dosfslabel
/dev/sda1 new_label") on Itanium-based systems, an unaligned memory access
caused the command to present an "unaligned access" error. This update
corrects the memory access and the dosfslabel command now works as expected
on Itanium-based systems. (BZ#430215)

dosfstools users should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
this issue.
