RHBA-2010:0407 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
up2date bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated up2date packages that fix a bug that prevented up2date working when
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.9 was run as a KVM and Flex guest is now
available.
Description
The Red Hat Update Agent, up2date, automatically queries the Red Hat
Network servers and determines which packages need to be updated on your
machine.
These updated packages fix the following bug:
- previously, up2date did not check if it was running on a KVM-based
virtualized instance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.9. Consequently, when
rhn_register ran on such an instance, registration with the Red Hat Network
failed, often with an error:
Insufficient Software Channel Entitlements
With this update, up2date now checks for and supports running in
fully-virtualized environments, allowing KVM-based virtualized Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 3.9 instances to register with the Red Hat Network and
operate as Flex Guests. (BZ#569941)
Note: the error noted above did not always appear and was misleading in
most instances in any event, since it could appear even when there were
sufficient Channel Entitlements.
For information on Flex Guest Entitlements on the Red Hat Network see
http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-17424
For information on virtualized Red Hat Enterprise Linux registration on the
Red Hat Network see http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-9933
All up2date users should install these updated packages which addresses
these issues.
