Topic
An updated RHN Satellite package that fixes various bugs in rhn-upgrade is
now available.
Description
The rhn-upgrade package is the primary vehicle for RHN Satellite upgrades.
It contains upgrade documentation and helper scripts.
This updated rhn-upgrade package addresses several issues that affected the
rhn-upgrade package released along with RHN Satellite version 5.3.0:
- schema upgrade could consume a large amount of undo tablespace,
potentially causing schema upgrade failures. (BZ#523389, BZ#523384)
- schema upgrade could consume a large amount of temporary tablespace,
potentially causing schema upgrade failures. (BZ#523389, BZ#509112)
- conversion of the /var/satellite storage structure to the new format was
not honoring package epoch information. (BZ#523393)
- documentation improvements. (BZ#523390, BZ#524718)
Users of RHN Satellite who are planning to upgrade to RHN Satellite 5.3.0
are advised to use this updated package, which addresses these issues.
Solution
To install the rhn-upgrade package for RHN Satellite on Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 4AS, use the following command:
up2date -i rhn-upgrade
To upgrade the package if it is already installed, use this command:
up2date -u rhn-upgrade
To install rhn-upgrade on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server:
yum install rhn-upgrade
If rhn-upgrade is already installed, update it with this command:
yum upgrade rhn-upgrade
Then follow the standard RHN Satellite upgrade procedure.

Fixes
- BZ - 509112 - Creating time_series_probe_id_idx index causes running out of TEMP_TBS for very large time_series tables
- BZ - 523384 - During /var/satellite conversion, you can run out of UNDO_TBS
- BZ - 523389 - Upgrade of rhnPackageChangelog table consumes lot of UNDO_TBS and TEMP_TBS
- BZ - 523390 - Add note to upgrade documentation that this upgrade is slow
- BZ - 523393 - /usr/bin/update-packages creates wrong path for packages using epoch
- BZ - 523760 - If /usr/bin/update-packages fails between rename and commit, 404 Package not found errors appear
- BZ - 524718 - Satellite 5.3.0 rhn-upgrade package needs to include location of schema-upgrade logs in the upgrade instruction/documentation
