Advisory: RHBA-2009:0485-1
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2009-05-18
Last updated on: 2009-05-18
Affected Products: Red Hat Desktop (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 4)
OVAL: N/A

Details

Updated crash packages that resolve an issue are now available.

The crash packages are used to investigate live systems as well as kernel
core dumps created from the netdump, diskdump and kdump facilities.

These updated crash packages fix a bug which occurred when a non-Red Hat
kernel module overwrote its compiled-in exported symbol list with a
hand-crafted symbol list. In these cases, the crash utility would fail
during initialization with a segmentation violation. In these updated
packages, if a non-Red Hat kernel module that has overwritten its exported
symbol list with a hand-crafted one is encountered, a warning message will
be issued, and the crash session initialization will proceed normally.

All users of crash are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve this issue.
