Advisory: RHBA-2009:0247-7
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2009-01-20
Last updated on: 2009-01-20
Affected Products: RHEL Desktop Workstation (v. 5 client)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client)

Details

Updated openmotif packages that fix various bugs and add an enhancement are
now available.

The openmotif packages include the Motif shared libraries needed to run
applications that are dynamically linked against Motif, as well as MWM,
the Motif Window Manager.

These updated packages fix the following bugs:

* previously, core dumps may have occurred when using non-UTF-8 locales.
For example, a core dump was reported when using the middle mouse-button to
click on a menu entry.

* a bug in the Open Motif ReplaceItem() function may have caused
segmentation faults when running certain applications. For example, it was
reported that NEdit crashed in certain situations when using the NEdit
graphical user interface.

* pasting data into XmTextField was not reliable, and may have resulted in
a crash.

* a bug in the way Open Motif handled Grab and Ungrab events, which may
have caused the display to lock for certain applications, has been
resolved.

* a bug in XmList, which may have caused certain applications to crash, has
been resolved.

Note: these updated packages upgrade Open Motif to the upstream 2.3.1
version. For a full list of bug fixes and enhancements, refer to the Open
Motif release notes:
ftp://ftp.ics.com/openmotif/2.3/2.3.1/RELEASE

All openmotif users should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues and add this enhancement.
