Synopsis
firstboot bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated firstboot packages that fix various bugs and provide an enhancement
are now available.
Description
The firstboot utility runs after installation. It guides the user through
a series of steps that allows for easier configuration of the machine.
These updated packages addresses the following issues:
- on some machines with multiple CPUs, the X server that is used by
firstboot was not terminated correctly, resulting in a race condition.
Consequently, when firstboot was finished, the GDM login screen would not
be displayed. With this update, when firstboot is terminated, the X server
is also correctly terminated, which resolves this issue.
- previously, when upgrading the firstboot package, the compiled python
files were being removed by pre-installation scripts. Consequently, this
caused the command "rpm -V firstboot" to not function after upgrading the
package. With these updated packages, this issue has been resolved.
These updated packages also add the following enhancement:
- the firstboot Text User Interface (firstboot-tui), which includes the
ability to configure the Red Hat Network (RHN), is now supported on IBM
System z (s390x) based machines.
Users of redhat-rpm-config are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which resolves these issues and adds this enhancement.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use
