Topic
An updated util-linux package that fixes several bugs is now available.
Description
The util-linux package contains a collection of basic system utilities,
such as fdisk and login.
This updated package fixes the following bugs:
- the "BUGS" section of the nfs(5) man page incorrectly described the
"posix" and "nocto" options. As well, the nfs(5) man page incorrectly
stated that the "tcp" and "namlen" options did not work.
- the script(1) man page mentioned the "scriptrelay" command; however,
this command is not shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4, or 5. As
such, the reference to the "scriptrelay" command has been removed.
- sfdisk(8) did not use a default geometry (255 heads, 63 sectors) for
Device-Mapper Multipath devices. Using "sfdisk" on Device-Mapper Multipath
devices resulted in a "cannot get geometry sfdisk: bad input" error. In
this updated package, "sfdisk" uses the default geometry for Device-Mapper
Multipath devices, which resolves this issue.
- the kill(1) man page has been updated with a more verbose and correct
description of the "kill -0" command.
- in certain situations, backgrounded NFS mounts died shortly after
being backgrounded when the mount command was executed by the initlog
command, which, for example, would occur when running an init script, such
as running the "service netfs start" command. In these situations, running
the "ps -ef" command showed backgrounded NFS mounts disappearing shortly
after being backgrounded. In this updated package, backgrounded mount
processes detach from the controlling terminal, which resolves this issue.
- the nfs(5) man page incorrectly stated that UDP was the default protocol
for NFS.
Users of util-linux are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
