Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated gdm package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
The GNOME Display Manager (GDM) is a highly configurable replacement for
the X Display Manager (XDM). GDM allows you to log in to your system with
the X Window System running, and supports running several different X
sessions on your local machine at the same time.
This updated package fixes the following bugs:
- if a user pressed "Ctrl+Alt+Backspace" within 10 seconds of logging in,
and then logged out and repeated this process, eventually X would take a
long time to restart, or would hang indefinitely, requiring GDM to be
killed.
- if a user pressed "Ctrl+Alt+Backspace" within five seconds of the login
screen appearing, GDM fell back to a login screen with no theme
("greeter"). As well, a "The greeter seems to be crashing. I will attempt
to use a different one" error occurred.
Users of gdm are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
