Advisory: RHBA-2008:0687-3
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2008-07-24
Last updated on: 2008-07-24
Affected Products: Red Hat Desktop (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 4)
OVAL: N/A

Details

Updated usermode packages that fix various bugs are now available.

The usermode package contains the userhelper program, which allows
configured programs to run with superuser privileges by ordinary users. The
usermode-gtk package contains several graphical tools for users: userinfo,
usermount, and userpasswd. Userinfo allows users to change their finger
information. Usermount lets users mount, unmount, and format file systems.
Userpasswd allows users to change their passwords.

These updated packages address the following issues:

* the consolehelper previously used the exit code to report its own status.
This meant it did not return the exit code of an application called via
consolehelper. This updated package includes a re-designed consolehelper
that concentrates its own return codes separately. Consequently, the exit
code of applications called by consolehelper is now preserved and presented
when requested.

* the previous version of userhelper called a pam function after that
function had been released from memory, causing userhelper to crash. This
update corrects this memory handling error.

Users are advised to upgrade to these updated usermode packages, which
resolve these issues.
