RHBA-2008:0637 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
quota bug fix update

Bug Fix Advisory

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated quota package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
The quota package contains system administration tools for monitoring and
limiting user and group disk usage, for each file system listed in
"/etc/mtab".
This updated package fixes the following bugs:
- "rpc.rquotad" failed to find the mount points for NFSv3 exported file
systems. Using "quota" on a remote machine, that has mounted a
quota-enabled file system via NFSv3, resulted in the following error on
the NFSv3 server:
rpc.rquotad: Can't stat() given mountpoint [/mountpoint]: No such file or
directory
In this updated package, "quota" works correctly on NFSv3 exported file
systems.
- the quotactl(2) man page incorrectly stated to include "linux/quota.h".
The correct include statement is "sys/quota.h". As such, the man page has
been updated to reflect this.
- the "quota", "setquota", and "edquota" commands were unable to handle
numeric-only usernames and groupnames. For example, running the "quota -v
01234" command, where "01234" is a valid numeric-only username, caused
an incorrect username, UID, and quota information to be reported.
In this updated package, a new "-x" option has been added to the "quota",
"setquota", and "edquota" commands, that allows them to handle numeric-only
usernames and groupnames. For example, running the "quota -v -x 01234"
command now displays the correct information. The help and man pages have
been updated to document this option.
- the default "/etc/quotatab" file used "/dev/hda4" as an example. Running
the "warnquota" command on a system that did not have "/dev/hda4" caused
the following error:
warnquota: Can't stat device /dev/hda4 (maybe typo in quotatab)
In this updated package, the "/dev/hda4" example is commented out.
Users of quota are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
