Synopsis
authconfig bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated authconfig packages that resolve several issues and add an
enhancement are now available.
Description
The authconfig package contains a terminal mode and a GUI mode program that
can configure a workstation to use shadow passwords, or to be a client for
certain networked user information and authentication schemes.
These updated authconfig packages provide fixes for the following bugs:
- in the nsswitch.conf file, which sets sources for various kind of system
information such as user account or hostnames, authconfig erroneously added
ldap as a source for protocols when LDAP was enabled.
- authconfig would create a non-functional krb5.conf kerberos configuration
file in certain circumstances.
- authconfig-gtk would sometimes fail to update the /etc/sysconfig/network
configuration file with the NIS domain name.
- using the '--winbindjoin' option always caused authconfig to crash.
These updated packages also add the following enhancements:
- it is now possible for authconfig to configure a system so that it
automatically creates and sets up a user's home directory upon first login.
- it is now possible to set up the authentication process to run the
pam_access module during account authorization.
- authconfig is now able to set up systems so that when users change
passwords, the new passwords are stored using SHA256 or SHA512 hashes.
- authconfig has been upgraded to a more recent version.
Users are advised to upgrade to these updated authconfig packages, which
resolve these issues.
