Bug Fix Advisory New packages: stress and lmbench

Advisory: RHBA-2008:0174-2
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2008-03-11
Last updated on: 2008-03-11
Affected Products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4)
OVAL: N/A

Details

New packages, stress and lmbench, which are required by the Red Hat
Hardware Test Suite (HTS), are now available.

Stress enables users to configure and impose CPU, memory, I/O, and disk
stress on POSIX-compliant operating systems. This is used to place systems
under load, so that performance can be analyzed.

Lmbench is a series of benchmark tests, which measure basic operating
system and hardware metrics. These tests include bandwidth and latency.

The stress and lmbench packages are required by the Red Hat HTS. These
updated packages add the stress and lmbench packages.

Users of hts are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, before
installing the hts package.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
