Details

An updated gnome-screensaver package that fixes various bugs is now available.

The gnome-screensaver package contains the GNOME project's official
screensaver program. It is designed for improved integration with a GNOME
desktop, including themeability, language support, and Human Interface
Guidelines (HIG) compliance. It also provides screen-locking and fast
user-switching from a locked screen.

This update addresses the following issues:

* gnome-screensaver was not able to nicely fade-out when locking the
screen, providing no warning that the screen was going to be locked. This
has been fixed so that gnome-screensaver now fades out properly before
locking the screen.

* pressing ctrl-alt--keypad-slash would deactivate the X server's keyboard
grabs, which was sufficient to circumvent the screen-locking mechanism used
by gnome-screensaver. This has been disabled and a debugging option added
to the Xorg configuration file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which allows the
reactivation of the X server's keyboard grabs. To enable this behavior, the
following line must now be listed in the "Server Layout" section of xorg.conf:

Option "AllowDeactivateGrabs"

* pressing ctrl+alt+keypad-multiply would kill clients with an active
keyboard or mouse grab as well as killing any application that may have
locked the server, which was sufficient to circumvent the screen-locking
mechanism used by gnome-screensaver. This has been disabled and a debugging
option added to the Xorg configuration file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which
allows the reactivation of the X server's keyboard grabs. To enable this
behavior, the following line must now be listed in "ServerLayout" section
of xorg.conf:

Option "AllowClosedownGrabs"

Users of gnome-screensaver should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
