RHBA-2007:0925 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
java-1.4.2-bea bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated java-1.4.2-bea package which removes support for WebStart and
the Java plugin as well as updating daylight savings information for New
Zealand is now available.
Description
The BEA WebLogic JRockit 1.4.2_12 JRE and SDK contain BEA WebLogic JRockit
Virtual Machine 1.4.2_12 and are certified for the Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition, v1.4.2.
The Java 2 Runtime Environment consists of the Java virtual machine, the
Java platform core classes, and supporting files, including a Web browser
plugin for running Java applets. This is the runtime part of the Java 2
SDK without the development tools such as compilers and debuggers.
The Java 2 Software Development Kit (SDK) is a development environment for
building applications, applets, and components that can be deployed on the
Java platform. The Java 2 SDK software includes tools useful for
developing and testing programs written in the Java programming language.
The Java 2 SDK software also includes a JDBC/ODBC bridge for Java
applications that needs to communicate with a database.
The following packages comprise BEA's JRockit 1.4.2_12:
java-1.4.2-bea
java-1.4.2-bea-console
java-1.4.2-bea-demo
java-1.4.2-bea-devel
java-1.4.2-bea-jdbc
java-1.4.2-bea-src
BEA has discontinued support for the Java plugin and WebStart. There is no
java-1.4.2-bea-plugin sub-package included in this release, and installing
these packages will remove any java-1.4.2-bea-plugin package you have
installed. Likewise, this release does not include the
java-1.4.2-bea-console sub-package and installing these packages will
remove any java-1.4.2-bea-console package you have installed.
This release also includes updates to zoneinfo accounting for the extension
of New Zealand Daylight Savings Time to 27 weeks per year.
All users of the JRockit 1.4.2 release series should upgrade to these
updated packages, which resolve these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
