Type/Severity

Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated ntp packages that fix several bugs are now available.
Description
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize a computer's time
with a referenced time source.
The following issues have been addressed in this update:
- The ntp daemon, as a broadcast client, ignored broadcasts sent on
the 255.255.255.255 address.
- The ntp daemon was missing openssl support on x86_64 and s390x
architectures.
- The ntpq and ntpdc programs were missing readline support.
- The ntpd init script returned the wrong exit code when the network
service was stopped.
- The ntpd daemon started with the -q option returned zero exit code
even when it did not set the system clock.
Users of ntp are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues and allow the passing of additional options to
ntpdate.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
