Bug Fix Advisory binutils bug fix update

Advisory: RHBA-2006:0489-5
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2006-08-09
Last updated on: 2006-08-09
Affected Products: Red Hat Desktop (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (v. 4)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (v. 4)

Details

Updated binutils packages that fix several bugs and add support for the
signal frame .eh_frame flag and MNI instructions are now available.

Binutils is a collection of utilities used for the creation of executable code.

This updated binutils package correctly handles linking between versioned,
non-versioned, and undefined symbols. Previous versions of binutils either
created an incorrect link or created no link.

Additionally, this update adds assembler support for x86 and 64-bit Merom
New Instructions and for the .cfi_signal_frame directive. The linker now
handles the newly added signal frame flag in .eh_frame sections.

All users of binutils should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues.
