RHBA-2006:0347 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
sed bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
A sed update, with -i option bug fixes, is now available.
Description
Sed is a stream or batch (non-interactive) editor. Sed takes text as
input, performs an operation or set of operations on the text, and outputs
the modified text.
This update fixes the behavior of sed in two ways. First, sed will not
overwrite symbolic links when doing in-place edit (-i option). Second, a new
option was introduced: -c. With this option used during in-place edit, sed
will use copying of files where simple rename would be used otherwise. This
is slower, but won't change the permissions of the edited file.
The update is recommended for console people, sysadmins and shell
programmers. For other users the update is optional.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
