RHBA-2006:0014 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
kernel-utils bugfix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated kernel-utils packages that fix various bugs are now available.
Description
The kernel-utils packages contains several utilities that can be used to
control the kernel or a system's hardware.
A number of issues have been fixed in the dmidecode & microcode_ctl tools:
- dmidecode was previously available for the ia64 platform, but was
irreparably broken on a majority of ia64 systems. It has been removed
from this release.
- dmidecode no longer breaks when it finds non-ascii characters in
strings.
- Updated CPU microcode for Intel CPUs has been included.
Users of kernel-utils should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date

RPMs being upgraded on your system.
