RHBA-2004:394 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated ypserv package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated ypserv package that fixes a YP_NOMORE bug is now available.
Description
The Network Information Service (NIS) is a system that provides
network information (login names, passwords, home directories, group
information) to all of the machines on a network. NIS allows users
to login on any machine on the network, as long as the machine has
the NIS client programs running and the user password is recorded in
the NIS passwd database. NIS was formerly known as Sun Yellow Pages
(YP).
In the NIS protocol, the yp_all procedure is a list of yp entries packaged
up by the server and sent back to the client in one big message, versus
doing a yp_first/yp_next which receives each entry one at a time.
This updated ypserv package fixes a problem where some applications
depended on seeing the YP_NOMORE status instead of relying on the more bit.
Ypserv was not ending the packaged yp entires with a YP_NOMORE status,
resulting in the more bit set to false. This patch fixes this problem.
All users of ypserv should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
this issue.
