Updated XFree86 packages are available

Updated XFree86 4.1.0 packages are now available which fix various bugs
reported for the Itanium (IA64) systems.

The XFree86.4.1.0-44 package available with this release provides a fix for
Itanium (IA64) systems (related bugs: 74404, 79855, and 79909). Previous
XFree86 packages for Itanium systems removed the int10 module (which
provides video card BIOS support to the X Server) from the XFree86 module
list.

Hewlett-Packard IA64/ZX1 systems are not tolerant of some of the bus
accesses that occur when the int10 module attempts to execute the video
BIOS found on the card. During X Server initialization, an HP IA64/ZX1
system will typically machine check (hard system failure requiring
reboot). However, other Itanium systems can correctly execute video card BIOS.

Because some graphic card drivers require the int10 module to be present
and to execute correctly the int10 module has been returned to the set of
modules in Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 for the Itanium Processor. If
at run-time it is determined the host is an HP IA64/ZX1 system, execution
of int10 is disabled; otherwise, the int10 module is loaded and executed.
For the set of supported graphics cards on HP IA64/ZX1 systems (ATI Radeon
VE) this load failure does not create a problem as the driver selects an
alternate method to initialize itself.

Users of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server on IA64 systems should install the
upgraded XFree86 packages which address this issue.

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
