Bug Fix Advisory Updated dateconfig is available

Advisory: RHBA-2002:087-05
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2002-05-10
Last updated on: 2002-06-03
Affected Products: Red Hat Linux 7.3
OVAL: N/A

Details

Dateconfig is used to set the system's date and time zone configurations.
An updated dateconfig package is available, which allows dateconfig to
handle a malformed ntp.conf file without crashing.

dateconfig-0.7.5-5 allowed the user to enable NTP without specifying an
NTP server, resulting in a malformed ntp.conf file. If the user tried to
run dateconfig again to repair the error, dateconfig crashed while trying
to parse the malformed ntp.conf file.

This update to dateconfig prevents the user from enabling NTP without
specifying an NTP server. In addition, dateconfig now handles the
malformed ntp.conf file without crashing.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
