Bug Fix Advisory Updated quota package for Red Hat Linux 7.1

Advisory: RHBA-2001:108-07
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2001-08-30
Last updated on: 2001-09-08
Affected Products: Red Hat Linux 7.1
OVAL: N/A

Details

An updated set of quota utilities for Red Hat Linux 7.1 is being made
available. This new package fixes several problems with the quota
utilities as originally shipped. All systems using disk quotas should be
upgraded.

The disk quota utilities were rewritten for Red Hat Linux 7.1 to coexist
with the new 2.4 Linux kernel. Some rather serious bugs exist in the
initial implementation, which this errata release corrects. These bugs
include:

Problems getting quota information over NFS via rpc.quotad.
Problems updating quota file information on filesystems with named pipes.
Inability to turn on both user and group quotas at the same time.

Other minor issues have been corrected, as well.

If you are not using Linux disk quotas, there is no reason to apply this
update or even have the quota utilities installed. Uninstall them by
executing:

rpm -e quota

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this to be an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat
Network, launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
